A lovely friend and an absolutely fabulous hoomanbeing asked me if I happened to have any raccoons. Well, I do now!! These 3 baby raccoons are full of mischief and carefully considering adventures to explore. They are still quite small so, for now, their favorite pastime is to play peek-a-boo with unsuspecting hoomans.

These little ninjas were born in August 2021 and created in pencil, ink, colored in Copic markers, and highlights were added using white acrylic paint & white ink. This fine-art print is 8x10 inches and on 100% cotton, true baryta (barium sulfate) fiber paper that offers the density of a traditional darkroom FB-type paper to hold detail in the deep blacks of the shadow regions, while producing natural white highlights that’s enhanced with a slight fiber glossy surface texture.

Why are raccoons awesome? Did you know that Raccoons wash their hands and food a lot? Here’s why! The answer lies in their paws; more specifically, the nerve endings in their paws. Raccoons wet their food to gather more sensory information. Moistening the food helps raccoons further understand what they are eating.

Unlike humans, who can rely on their eyesight, raccoons depend on their touch to gather the majority of their information. When a raccoon touches an object, it is able to gather nearly two-thirds of that object’s sensory information. Their paws have four to five times more mechanoreceptors than most other mammals. As a result, raccoons are able hold, manipulate, and interpret objects on the same level as humans and other intelligent primates. - Learn more here.
