Baby Badger

This adorable badger cub feels as though badgers have gotten a bad rap. Misunderstood badger has a bit of a temper when backed into a corner but who doesn't? After all, he can be quite cuddly as long as you you don’t try to cuddle him. As seen in the creation photo, I used a layering technique from one of my favorite watercolor artists, Peggy Macnamara. If you look closely, you’ll see all the colors of the rainbow in his fuzzy fur.

Baby badger was born in April 2020 and created in pencil, ink, colored in Copic markers, and highlights were added using white ink. This fine-art print is 5x5 inches and on 100% cotton, true baryta (barium sulfate) fiber paper that offers the density of a traditional darkroom FB-type paper to hold detail in the deep blacks of the shadow regions, while producing natural white highlights that’s enhanced with a slight fiber glossy surface texture.

Why are badgers so awesome? “Many badger species are very social creatures and live in groups called a cete or clan. A clan shares territory and setts. Setts can be centuries old and are used by many generations of badgers. One sett can be 22 to 109 yards (20 to 100 meters) or more long, according to the Somerset Wildlife Trust..” - livescience.com
